Yesterday’s Extraordinary Session

“Dysfunction in Albany didn’t return this year, because it obviously never left.
Today’s extraordinary session produced nothing to celebrate. There is no victory in completing work that should have been done weeks ago. No one deserves applause for passing bills in the middle of the night out of public view.
The entire Legislature returned to Albany ready to act, but instead sat idly for hours because four men in a room had no plan, no bills and no clue.
Despite today’s activity, we leave Albany without meaningful reforms to the programs and processes that are failing New Yorkers. Corruption has reached every level of government, but we have done nothing to protect taxpayer dollars or preserve the institution we serve.
Today, we were provided an extraordinary reminder of how thoroughly broken our state government is.”
