My Thoughts On The Pension Forfeiture Legislation

“Assembly Democrats stalled, weakened and watered-down a pension forfeiture bill they agreed to pass three months ago and that has already passed in the Senate. The revised legislation we saw tonight virtually guarantees there will be no movement on this critical ethics bill in 2015.
Regardless of position or office, public officials convicted of betraying the public trust should not have their retirements funded by the taxpayers. Assembly Republicans proposed stronger pension forfeiture legislation with no exemptions or loopholes. But Democrats rejected that amendment.
This is a slap in the face to New Yorkers fed up with the culture of corruption in Albany. The fact that Assembly Democrats decided to move backward on ethics reform in a year tainted by corruption and scandal calls into question their priorities and principles.”
