During Difficult Times, We Find The True Meaning Of The Holidays

This year, the holidays will feel different. Everyone is making sacrifices. You might be worshipping differently. You might have to wait until next year to join colleagues for the annual holiday party. Out of town family members and friends probably won’t be around to participate in traditions that may have been with you for generations. And all of us are avoiding mass gatherings to keep each other healthy and safe.

However, challenging circumstances have a way of focusing us on what’s really important. The holiday season is an excellent time for reflection. We express our love and gratitude for the people who mean the most to us, especially our family members. People of all religious backgrounds express their joy and devotion to their faith during this special time. Many take time away from work to relax, recharge and spend meaningful time with family.

For those who can’t, including all of the healthcare heroes, frontline and essential workers, law enforcement, and active duty servicemembers promoting freedom and opportunity all over the world, I want to extend my sincerest appreciation and gratitude.

There is a special excitement to the Christmas holiday, a unique spirit of generosity that feels so immediate when we’re kids. I’m challenging you to rediscover it this year. Shop at a local small business for a special gift for a friend you haven’t seen in a while. Re-watch your favorite Christmas movie. Cook a special meal from an old family recipe. Order one from a family restaurant. If you’re able, donate to a local nonprofit that supports those who are struggling.

I want to wish all of you a happy holiday, a Merry Christmas, and a Blessed New Year filled with exciting opportunities and good health.
